Making waves at the CUDOS Legacy Showcase

Scientists are showcasing latest photonics research and technology

27-09-2017

Get a sneak peek into the future potential impact of photonics and the revolutionary light based technologies that will change our world and drive Australia's innovation economy at the CUDOS Legacy Showcase.

CUDOS Legacy Showcase

Photonics is the science of light and the technology of generating, controlling and detecting photons, which are particles of light. Whereas the enabling technology of the 20th century was undoubtedly electronics, the 21st century is becoming the century of photonics and optical and light based technologies. The use of light has revolutionized the way we interact in the 21st century – photonics is a key enabling technology for a large number of application areas such as communications, computing, defense, health, security and astronomy.

See how photonics underpins technologies of our daily lives at the CUDOS Legacy Showcase this Friday: Meet and speak to the scientists who are building an Australian photonics eco-system by performing cutting edge research. From storing lightning in thunder to twisted light that could dramatically boost internet speeds, the CUDOS Legacy Showcase will demonstrate how the Centre’s research has addressed and attempted to solve major global issues, and how its researchers plan to continue this ground-breaking work in the future.

The CUDOS Legacy Showcase is focused on three themes that mirror the original research vision and mission of CUDOS in addition to highlighting our significant outreach and community engagement focus:

  • Real World Solutions - learn how photonics underpins technologies of our daily lives
  • Next Generation Talent - be inspired by our future photonic leaders who are tackling major challenges through their exciting research
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit - see how revolutionary technologies change our world and drive our innovation economy

View and experience the exhibits & demonstrations, guest presentations and discussion forums, e-poster sessions, as well as enjoying a cocktail reception providing networking opportunities!

The Technology Showcase takes place on all 3 levels in the University of Sydney Nanoscience Hub on Friday, 29 September 2017, from 2.00pm to 5.00pm, followed by a Networking Event and related presentations by CUDOS Director Professor Benjamin Eggleton and Marita Cheng (2012 Young Australian of the Year, inventor, mentor & entrepreneur!) from 5.00 – 7.00pm.
