Dr Steve Frisken, CUDOS Partner Investigator, has been elected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE).

Dr Frisken’s election as a Fellow of the prestigious Academy honours his internationally recognised contributions to the field of optical communications in industrial settings.

Dr Frisken is one of Australia’s most successful inventors and entrepreneurs, with a stellar track record in the generation and commercialisation of intellectual property (IP) for the benefit of Australia. Companies he has founded during his 20 years as an entrepreneur have generated more than $900 million in export revenues. He is globally recognised as a leader in the field of optical communications. Wavelength Selective Optical Switches, based on his inventions, now underpin the internet backbone across the world. His latest venture Cylite is a technology development company that is creating the next generation of imaging and metrology systems for ophthalmic and related markets.

His election as a Fellow of ATSE places Dr Steve Frisken in an elite group of 25 key leaders in technological science, engineering and innovation from Australia and overseas elected in 2017 as Fellows of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE).
Fellows of the Academy are elected each year on the basis of their achievement in the application of science, technology and engineering to Australian life.
